The AFT 540 VP hand-piece for the Alma Harmony XL is used for vascular and pigmented lesions. Benign vascular lesions are an abnormal clustering of blood vessels, which are red in color. Pigmented lesions, less widespread, are clusters of melanin in the skin and are brown in color. While some lesions may fade, others become more pronounced over time. For most benign pigmented lesions that are of a cosmetic concern, there is a non-surgical option using the AFT 540 VP hand-piece available on the Harmony XL.
By exposing a pigmented lesion to short pulses of visible light, the temperature in the highly concentrated melanin can be raised sharply, enough to shatter the cells containing the melanin. The body then replaces these cells with new cells generated by the surrounding untreated area. The AFT 540 VP hand-piece offers unique wavelength and pulse width capabilities, allowing it to treat pigmented lesions on any skin type.
